9, including Delhi cop arrested for gambling in Sahibabad

GHAZIABAD: As many as nine people, including a Delhi police constable, were arrested by Sahibabad police for gambling on Monday. One of the accused is a restaurant owner, while some of them are working in BPOs and MNCs.
According to the police, the accused used to gather at DLF Colony in the area on weekends for gambling. Following a tip-off by some locals, a raid was conducted early morning and nine persons were caught from the spot.

Police have seized Rs 1.04 lakh in cash and a pack of cards from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Dinesh Gupta, Salim Khan, Abhijeet Mayur, Kuldeep Rawat, Manish Madan, Gopal, Navneet, Bharat Bhandari and Divesh Kherpal.
Dinesh Gupta is the owner of a restaurant in Sahibabad, while Salim Khan is a constable with the special cell of Delhi Police (East). The group used to gather at the home of Abhijeet Mayur, a resident of DLF Colony, Dilshad Extension- 2 on weekends.
Mayur works in a construction company. Navneet and Divesh work in BPOs while Bharat Bhandari is a stationery businessman. Manish Madan works with an export house and Gopal is a driver.
CO (Sahibabad) RK Mishra said, “We have been getting complaints about the gathering from locals. The accused were caught red-handed from Central Park in DLF. The accused come from well-to-do families and have been booked under the Gambling Act. The Delhi police have been informed about the involvement of their personnel. It seems that the criminal activity was going on for a long time. We are trying to ascertain more information about it, and also trying to find that if they were also involved in any betting activities.”
