Apaar ID now must for midday meals, perks
Panaji: The directorate of education (DoE) has now made Apaar ID, or the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry number, mandatory for school students to avail midday meals and other govt schemes, besides making it compulsory to quote the number during the transfer of students from one school to another.
“With the aim of utilising Apaar ID as the primary identifier of the student, it is mandatory to quote it in inter-school transfers and migration here onwards.
“Further, Apaar ID is also mandatory to obtain the benefits of free textbooks, midday meals and other govt schemes. Therefore, the heads of all institutions are enjoined to expedite the process of Apaar ID generation of their students,” the circular states.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has also issued a circular asking schools to enrol all Class IX and XI under Apaar and to upload the IDs that have been generated to the Board’s portal by Feb 20.
State govt has begun Apaar registration for all school students in Goa as part of implementation of the National Education Policy.
Apaar ID is a unique 12 digit number that will be allotted to each student in the state in private, aided and govt schools. This process will eventually lead to the creation of an academic bank of credits for school students, which will store their academic progress.
The ID will be a lifelong one allotted to the student. It is expected to make it easier to transfer credits if and when a student changes institutions within the state or across the country.
Creation of the ID will be done by using a child’s Aadhaar number, leading to the opening of a DigiLocker account for him/her for the digital storage of documents.
