Panaji: The high court has permitted Suchana Seth — accused of killing her four-year-old son at Candolim — to access the contact details on her phone, which has been deposited with the children’s court. She requested the details to contact her relatives.
The HC told the children’s court to allow the investigating officer to give her a copy of the details.
Such a procedure, the HC said, must be carried out in the presence of the superintendent or the head clerk of the court, and a report to this effect must be placed before the children’s court.
Once the contact details are copied, the phone will be deposited again with the children’s court. Suchana is at present in judicial custody.
“It is made clear that such a copy of the contact details will be furnished to the petitioner so that she will be able to contact her relatives as and when permitted by the jail authority,” Justice Bharat P Deshpande said.
Suchana went to the HC challenging the order of the trial court, which rejected the release of her mobile phone. She said if just the contact details were furnished to her, the purpose would be served.
The children’s court earlier this month framed charges of murder against Suchana, a Bengaluru-based data scientist and CEO of a startup, in connection with killing her son at a Candolim service apartment in Jan. Charges of destruction of evidence were also framed against her.
