PANAJI: Goa government and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday for a tie-up to promote science and technology based
development in the state.
Chief secretary Sanjay K Srivastava and R K Sinha, BARC director, signed the papers in the presence of Anil Kakodkar, eminent scientist, at the Secretariat.
The pact will facilitate sharing of knowledge and transfer of research being carried out at BARC for betterment of Goa in the fields of agriculture, food, water, nuclear power, technology development, solid waste management and bio-degradable waste, sources said.
Srivastava said the MoU will help forge a relationship between Goa and BARC, the premiere research institute, to enhance the quality of life.
Kakodkar said that the idea of signing the pact came to him during his interaction with Goan scholars some months back. Scientific research gives joy and science is the basic for the improvement of the quality of people's life, he added.
Sinha said that BARC's research should reach the people and the MoU will help achieve the objective. M Patankar gave a presentation on research conducted in the BARC.
Secretary, science and technology and art and culture T M Balakrishna welcomed the gathering and secretary education V P Rao proposed a vote of thanks.
Various heads of government departments were present.
