Income cert delays: Rights panel seeks panchayat’s say
Panaji: The Goa human rights commission on Wednesday took suo motu cognisance of a news report on protests at Chimbel panchayat over the non-issuance of income certificates.
The commission issued notices to the director of the directorate of panchayats and secretary of the Chimbel panchayat, calling for their replies by June 2.
The commission observed that the news report prima facie raises concerns of violation of human rights and directed the parties to appear before the commission in person or through their representative by June 2.
The villagers protested the alleged delays in the issuance of income certificates on account of the sarpanch not signing and sanctioning.
The income certificates are required for Griha Adhaar and other purposes.
The report said the Chimbel villagers alleged that those who were part of protests opposing the centrally sanctioned projects of Unity Mall and Prashasan Stambh were being deliberately targeted.
