Margao: For yet another consecutive day, Margao residents faced the inconvenience of power outages that have now become a regular phenomenon.
While electricity linesmen Mohammad Ilyas of division IV sub-division I blamed the power failure on an incoming fault in the power supply from the Xeldem power station, another operator based at Margao Monte sub-station Joaquim Figuereido informed TOI that “the 43 KV circuit from Nessai had tripped.

There was a spark in the yard and after a test drive was conducted, the fault was detected in the Y phase 6.3 MVA at the portation transformer (PT) in the Monte sub-station, Margao”.
Assistant engineer (AE) Carlos Fernandes quickly disclosed, “The power failure was due to a problem in the transformer at the Monte sub-station and electricity was switched off for 20 minutes. We test charged and discovered the fault. We are attending to the problem that will take some time and we are providing power supply from the Aquem end.”
Margao resident Roque Miranda said, “The power situation is very bad with the lights going on and off frequently daily. Yet we are getting fantastic bills from the electricity department of 2,000-3,000 although we are hardly at home as we are busy at work the whole day.”
