Parab among 35 questioned by police for Rane house protest

Panaji: Goa police interrogated around 35 persons, including RG president Manoj Parab, in connection with an FIR registered against them for marching to TCP minister Vishwajit Rane’s residence in Dona Paula last week, North Goa SP Harish Madkaikar said on Monday.

Parab said that this was not a new thing for him, but it was to create fear in the minds of common people who came out in large numbers to save their village. “If we are scared of a police notice, we will not be able to save the land. This is the second revolution in Goa to save land from the hands of people from Delhi,” said Parab.


Goa police on Saturday filed an FIR against leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, AAP Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Parab, activists, and around 1,500 supporters for allegedly marching to Rane’s residence and allegedly blocking the road for nearly eight hours.

Panaji police also registered a separate FIR against RG St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and around 25 villagers of Siridao for allegedly criminally trespassing into the TCP office. Police registered a third FIR against Borkar, Parab, 20 Siridao villagers, and others for allegedly committing theft of 10 files and criminal trespass at the TCP office at Patto.

A total of three FIRs were registered by Panaji police against protesters and others in different events connected to the protest to scrap Section 39(A) of the TCP Act.

Police said that the accused people, with a common object, formed an unlawful assembly and, without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority, organised the protest under the pretext of extending solidarity to Borkar and scrapping Section 39A of the TCP Act.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Holi wishes, messages and quotes !
