Porvorim road closure extended till June 16

The stretch was earlier scheduled to reopen on May 27.
The closure is necessary to “facilitate hindrance free and speedy completion of the project taking into considerations, the safety of commuters,” the PWD said.
Traffic moving from Panaji towards Mapusa will be diverted via the left-side service road near Hotel Neo Majestic. The connecting road from Pundalik Nagar near P82 at Delfinos junction will also remain closed. Vehicles heading towards Mapusa from Betim will be allowed on the existing right-side service road of NH-66 from P85 near Gauri Petrol Pump, the department said.
Initially, the corridor was expected to be completed by April 2026. However, work on the busy Porvorim stretch has faced delays.
Last month, contractor RRSM Infra from Rajasthan was granted an extension till Oct to complete the project, with the condition that adequate precautions be taken during the monsoon to ensure commuter safety.
