VASCO: Ramakant Borkar was voted out of office as sarpanch of Sancoale on Monday.
A no-confidence motion was passed against Borkar by a margin of 8-0 in the 11-member panchayat body.
The notice for no-trust motion was moved against Borkar two days after he was arrested by the anti-corruption branch of the vigilance department in a bribery case. He has since been released on conditional bail.
On Monday, when the meeting was convened, Borkar made a plea to the Vasco BDO Mohini Halarnkar to postpone the meeting to allow him to participate in the proceedings. His request was rejected by the BDO, who was the presiding officer and who conducted the proceedings.
All the eight members who had signed the notice were present for the meeting.
Gilbert Mariano, Narayan Naik, Derick Vales, Anita Mudaliar, Sharan Metti, Govind Lamani, Rosalina Moniz, and Shilpa Naik raised their hands in approval of the motion. Three members including Borkar were absent at the meeting.
