Yellow alert for Goa till Aug 27 amid heavy rainfall and winds

Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa until Aug 27, due to heavy rainfall and strong winds in the state. The alert highlights the potential for severe weather conditions and advises residents and visitors to exercise caution.

According to IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Goa from Aug 24 onwards till Aug 27. In addition to the rainfall, the state is expected to experience winds ranging from 30 to 40kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50kmph.

The weather advisory also extends to the coastal areas of South Maharashtra and Goa. From Aug 22 to Aug 25, squally winds with speeds of 35 to 45kmph, gusting up to 55kmph, are forecasted. Due to these conditions, fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the sea to ensure safety.

On Friday, the state received almost 13mm of rainfall, an uptick from the past week’s scanty rainfall.

Parts of the state saw a drop in maximum temperature by at least one degree as IMD recorded 31C in Panaji and 30.3C at Mormugao on Friday.
