3, including two bank staff, arrested in fake USDT trading scam in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Three men, including two bank employees, were arrested for allegedly cheating a man by persuading him to invest in USDT trading through a fake online portal and a fraudulent mobile application.The case came to light after the victim filed a complaint on Jan 15, stating that he was approached through WhatsApp and promised high returns from cryptocurrency trading. A case was registered at the cyber crime police station (south) and the accused tracked. Pintoo Kumar, 30, a resident of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Feb 5.
Two others, Rohit, 30, and Umang Gupta, 26, were arrested on Feb 7. Rohit, an MBA graduate, was working as a branch sales manager, while Umang was employed as a sales executive at an Axis Bank branch in Hathras.Around Rs 50 lakh from the cheated amount was transferred to a firm named Dinesh Enterprises, police said. The firm's bank account, registered in the name of Dinesh Kumar, was allegedly sold for Rs 30,000 to Pintoo and another associate. It was later sold further for Rs 8 lakh to unidentified persons linked to the scam.The accused allegedly opened bank accounts using forged documents to route the fraud proceeds, police said. "Rohit and Umang are suspected to have misused their positions at the bank to help open these accounts. They received Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively for their role, routed through Pintoo. More such fake accounts may have been opened using similar methods," an official said. So far, five accused have been arrested in the case. After a four-day police remand, Pintoo was produced before a court. Rohit and Umang are scheduled to be produced on Feb 8.
