Bus crash on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway; 1 dead, 10 injured

Gurgaon: A 20-year-old student died and 10 others suffered injuries after a private bus crashed into a divider and overturned on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway at Narsinghpur on Friday. Based on the complaint by one of the injured passengers from Alwar, police registered a case against the bus driver.

The incident happened around 1.30am as a sleeper coach bus of Vikas Travels, carrying about 55 passengers from Delhi to Jaipur, lost control and hit the median on NH-8. Passersby informed the police, and the victims were rushed to the civil hospital in ambulances and private vehicles by cops.

"We do not have the complete list of injured persons as most of them have left the place after the incident on their own," SI Virender Singh of Sector 37 police station said.

Sandeep Gurgar, who was from Rajasthan's Kotputli, was pursuing a Junior Basic Training course at Kinder Kin College in Panipat. He was declared dead upon arrival at the civil hospital.

His friends, Naveen Kumar, Romesh Chandolia, and Madanlal Saini, who were also on board, said the driver had been speeding despite warnings from passengers.

"We were on our way home after our first-year exams concluded on Thursday. We boarded the bus at IFFCO Chowk to go to Rajasthan around 1.20am on Friday. The bus driver was driving at a high speed. We and several passengers asked him to drive slowly, but he continued to drive at a very high speed," Naveen said.

"All the injured are out of danger. The driver fled the spot," the SI said. Naveen filed a complaint, after which a case was registered at Sector 37 police station under sections 106 (death due to negligence), 125 (a) (hurt caused in an act endangering life or personal safety of others)and 281 (rash driving) of BNS.
