GURGAON: A 34-year-old teacher had a narrow escape after a Mercedes collided with her car, triggering a chain collision, on Saturday afternoon. The Mercedes was allegedly being driven by a drunk man, who was arrested.The pile-up that took place at Damdama Mor in Sohna damaged multiple vehicles, including police personnel’s parked motorcycles and cars.An officer said, “The accused —Budh Ram, a resident of Bissar Akbarpur village in Mewat —was heavily intoxicated when he was pulled out of the vehicle by traffic personnel.” Another occupant, sitting in the car, fled.According to the complaint filed by Smita Kumari, who teaches at Govt Girls Senior Secondary School in Bhondsi and is a resident of Udaka village in Nuh, she was returning home in her Tata Tiago after school ended around 12.30 pm on Saturday when the accident took place near the traffic signal.Kumari told police that the Mercedes, bearing registration number HR82B0050, came from behind “at high speed” and hit her vehicle with such force that it spun around completely. The impact shattered the windowpanes, damaged the bumper and dislodged the tyres.After hitting the Tiago, the Mercedes crashed into a roadside juice stall, injuring the shopkeeper, known locally as Pandit Ji, and others present there. Police shifted the injured persons to hospital in an ambulance. The juice shop was near a traffic police post, and the vehicles of the police personnel were parked outside it.“The car then ploughed into several parked vehicles near the traffic booth, including a Hyundai i10 and Tata Tiago belonging to ASI Subhash, a new Splendor motorcycle belonging to constable Sandeep, and another motorcycle owned by EHC Rakesh, before finally crashing into a tree,” the complaint stated.An FIR was registered against Ram under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage) of the BNS at City Sohna police station. Investigators said Ram was medically examined at Govt Hospital Sohna, where his blood samples were collected for alcohol testing.
