GMRL Begins Metro Construction at Millennium City Centre

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has begun preparatory work at the bustling Millennium City Centre junction, marking the start of construction for the new metro station under Phase 1. The station will be a key node connecting Golf Course Road, Subhash Chowk, and Signature Tower.

2/9

Traffic Diversion Plan in the Works

A detailed traffic management plan is being designed in consultation with Gurugram traffic police and civic bodies. The diversion will help ensure smooth vehicular movement and commuter safety once full-scale construction begins near the flyover and Fortis Hospital.

3/9

Local Concerns About Congestion

Residents around Sector 9 and Palam Vihar worry that ongoing construction may cause major traffic snarls. Authorities say diversions and phased work schedules will minimize disruptions, but delays are likely during peak hours.

4/9

Alternative Road to Be Opened for Temporary Movement

Officials said a road behind the existing metro station—currently blocked—will be opened as a temporary diversion route during the construction phase. The stretch will be connected at both ends to ensure smooth bypass traffic flow while work is underway.

5/9

Busy Junction to See Route Adjustments

The Millennium City Centre junction currently handles one of Gurugram’s heaviest traffic volumes. With autos, rickshaws, and private vehicles using the under-flyover stretch, GMRL plans to temporarily block the area and divert vehicles via alternate routes to reduce congestion.

6/9

Coordination with GMDA & HSVP for Smooth Execution

To manage the traffic impact, GMRL is working closely with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). The agencies are finalising the diversion plan and exploring alternative corridors for temporary vehicle movement.

7/9

What Phase 1 Covers: 15.3 km, 14 Stations

Phase 1 of the new metro line will span 15.3 km with 14 elevated stations and a 1.8 km spur to the Dwarka Expressway. The corridor will connect key sectors with the Sector 33 depot, transforming Gurugram’s mass transit network by 2028.

8/9

Rs 1,277-Crore Contract and 30-Month Timeline

The Phase 1 construction has been awarded to Dilip Buildcon Ltd and Ranjit Buildcon Ltd (DBL-RBL JV). The project is expected to be completed in 30 months, targeting 2028 for operations — Gurugram’s first major metro expansion since 2017.

9/9

Towards a Smarter, Safer Gurugram Metro Network

Once complete, the new Millennium City Centre metro station will enhance connectivity to Cyber City, Dwarka Expressway, and southern Gurugram. The project aims to decongest roads, offer faster commute options, and mark a major step in the city’s transit transformation.
