ROHTAK: A day after a 21-year-old Sonipat wrestler and her brother were shot and killed by her coach outside her wrestling academy in their village Halalpur in Sonipat, the deceased’s mother has told the police that the accused used to sexually harass her daughter.
The accused, Pawan Kumar, who operated a franchise of wrestler Sushil Kumar’s academy in the village, allegedly shot the wrestler, her brother and later her mother.

While the siblings died on the spot, their mother is struggling for her life at Rohtak’s PGIMS.
The cremation of the siblings was performed at their village amid police security on Thursday. The bodies were handed over to their family members after the post-mortem. Their father works with CRPF. Four bullets were recovered from the wrestler’s body and three from her brother’s body, Sonipat principal medical officer Dr Jai Bhagwan said.
Sonipat police said that its teams are conducting raids at multiple locations to arrest coach Pawan Kumar. His wife and brother-in-law have already been arrested.
In her complaint, the murdered wrestler’s mother told the police that the coach used to visit their house as her daughter regularly attended his wrestling academy. “My daughter had once told me that Pawan always tried to harass her sexually whenever he got an opportunity. Even after she objected to his behaviour, he did not mend his ways,” she said.
She added that her daughter had again gone to the wrestling academy around 1 pm on Wednesday. Soon, the coach called her up to inform her that her daughter was not feeling well and asked her to take her home. “I rushed to the wrestling academy on a bike with my son. Upon seeing me, my daughter revealed that coach Pawan had again molested her on Wednesday and had threatened to kill her and other family members,” the woman added. The coach, who was listening to their conversation, pulled out a gun from his pocket and shot the young wrestler dead.
