MCG to hire agency to transport waste to Bandhwari landfill for 4 months
Gurgaon: MCG on Saturday initiated the process to hire a private agency for transporting waste from secondary collection points in zone 4 to Bandhwari landfill. The agency will be engaged for a period of four months at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. It will be responsible for lifting and transporting waste from key locations, including Beri Bagh, Khandsa village and Tulip Chowk.
Officials said the move is aimed at streamlining waste management operations and ensuring timely clearance of garbage from densely populated areas. “The agency will be asked to transport at least 706 tonnes per day, amounting to a total of 84,720 to be transported in four months,” said an MCG official privy to the matter.
MCG has mandated the conditions that the contractor will collect all the waste from all secondary collection points as per the scheduled timetable. Moreover, vehicles used in transportation of waste should be GPS-enabled, and waste is not transported uncovered.
The contractor will also have to register on the SWM portal of the Haryana govt, and the quantity of waste transported every day will have to be submitted on the portal along with GPS photos of the site every day.
On the penalties, the civic body has decided that if on any day, any category of vehicle is found less than the specified number, then a penalty of Rs 2,000 per day per vehicle will be imposed. Moreover, if any secondary collection point is found uncleaned or waste is not lifted, then a penalty of Rs 2,000 per day per secondary collection point will be imposed on the contractor.
MCG was recently forced to scrap its ongoing tender process to hire two private contractors for the doorstep waste collection of the entire city. The delay comes from the Haryana Urban Local Bodies department revising the request for proposal for the sixth time, prompting the civic body to halt the current bidding process. MCG officials will now prepare a revised cost estimate and send it to the department before new tenders can be floated.
