Pipeline to be shifted, Gurgaon set to face water supply shutdown for 36 hours
GURGAON: Several parts of the city are likely to face disruption in water supply for 36 hours due to a planned shutdown at Chandu Budhera water treatment plant. GMDA said the shutdown is slated to start from at 10am on Monday and will continue till 10pm on Tuesday.
The authority has attributed the shutdown to shifting of a water pipeline at Bakhtawar Chowk, and replacement of a non-return valve (NRV) along with maintenance work at the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant.
"A 1,200mm master water pipeline needs to be relocated as it is falling within the boundary of a commercial establishment. Moreover, the NRV at the Chandu Budhera plant needs to be replaced. We have issued a notice so that residents can make adequate arrangements before the shutdown," an official added.
Water supply will be affected in areas including Dayanand Colony, Old Gurgaon, Laxman Vihar, New Colony, Choti Mata booster, sectors 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 33, 34, 37C, 37D, and sectors 81 to 115.
Additionally, the boosting station in Sector 51, which supplies water to sectors 42 to 74 and Badshapur, will also experience supply disruption.
Residents have been advised to store adequate water in advance to avoid any inconvenience during the 36-hour shutdown period. It is also recommended to use water judiciously and avoid any wastage during this time.
Dinesh Vashisht, ex-president of sectors 3, 5, and 6 RWA, said, "Though a message has been circulated among the residents to take precautionary measures to avoid inconvenience, the challenge is the water supply itself. We did not receive water on Friday due to an outage. If this happens before the shutdown, it will become difficult."
Presently, the city gets 300 MLD of water from the Chandu Budhera plant and another 270 MLD from the Basai plant.
GMDA has assured that the maintenance work and pipeline replacement will be completed within the stipulated time, and the water supply will resume on Tuesday from 10 pm.
On July 19, GMDA had done a shutdown of 12 hours from Basai WTP for maintenance work on the 1200mm pipeline, resulting disruption in water supply in older parts of the city.
