Assam governor leads TB awareness rally at Cinnamara tea estate to promote health and nutrition

Dibrugarh: Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Friday led a tuberculosis (TB) awareness rally at Cinnamara tea estate in Jorhat, as part of the ‘Prime Minister TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’.The rally witnessed participation from key district officials, including Jorhat district commissioner Jay Shivani and senior superintendent of police Shwetank Mishra. Healthcare workers, tea garden labourers and students, too, joined the campaign.During the event, Acharya personally distributed ‘Nikshay Nutrition’ kits to TB patients, emphasising the crucial role of proper nutrition in treatment and recovery. The Nikshay scheme, launched by the Centre, provides direct benefit transfers to the patients, supporting their nutritional needs during treatment.“This step will speed up with our collective effort and India will become a healthy and strong nation. Our focus is on early detection, sustained treatment and holistic support through nutrition,” Acharya said during the distribution ceremony, highlighting the collaborative approach needed to achieve the PM’s vision of a TB-free India.The choice of Cinnamara tea estate, too, held special significance as tea garden workers often face challenging living and working conditions, which increases their vulnerability to tuberculosis.
