Aizawl: The fast-track court in Mizoram’s Kolasib district convicted and sentenced a resident of Zokhawthar in Champhai district to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking drugs on Thursday.
A fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on 23-year-old Vanlalfela.
In his judgment and order, fast-track court judge R Vanlalena said the convicted person would have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment if he defaults on paying the fine.
Based on credible intelligence, police officials at Vairengte town in Kolasib district seized 23.41 kg of methamphetamine concealed inside a car on Feb 25 last year. The driver of the car, Vanlalfela, was arrested along with his passenger Zingengmawia (27) of Zokhawthar village. The contraband was brought from Zokhawthar and was intended to be delivered to Bagha town in Assam’s Cachar district.
While Vanlalfela was convicted and sentenced, the fast track court exonerated the passenger, Zingengmawia, due to lack of evidence linking him to drug trafficking.
