Manipur Muslim body destroys drugs worth Rs 21 lakh

IMPHAL: Anjuman Islahi Muasharah (AIM), a civil body formed by Meitei Pangals (Manipuri Muslim), on Sunday destroyed drugs worth Rs 21 lakh in the grey market at Lilong area in Thoubal district.
The drugs - Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets, pseudoephedrine-content tablets of different brands and cough syrup bottles - were burnt before the public in the presence of agriculture minister Md Abdul Nashir.
"Our volunteers had seized the drugs from peddlers and smugglers from different parts of Lilong and its surrounding areas since June 1 last year," AIM general secretary Moulana Habib Ullah told this reporter on Monday. "Sunday's disposal of drugs was the ninth one since the establishment of AIM in February 2011," he said.
Before destroying the seized drugs, a motorcycle rally, which saw the minister and other prominent personalities of the area participating, was taken out in several streets of Lilong.
