Mizoram guv calls for united fight against drug abuse
Aizawl: Mizoram governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Thursday called for a united and intensified fight against drug abuse as he launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan' campaign, led by the Brahma Kumaris, at the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl.
Kambhampati noted that despite Mizoram's commendable performance in human development indicators, drug abuse remained a serious issue, affecting the youth. "It is unfortunate that drug-related issues continue to impact our youth," he said. However, the governor praised the state govt, religious bodies and civil society groups, particularly acknowledging the Young Mizo Association (YMA), for their anti-drug initiatives.
Relating Brahma Kumaris in Mizoram's fight against drugs, Kambhampati said, "The Brahma Kumaris' focus on spirituality and healthy lifestyle will bring a valuable new dimension to our fight against drugs."
He urged all stakeholders to wholeheartedly support anti-drug initiatives and appealed to the school teachers to involve Brahma Kumaris in their anti-drug programmes to create greater awareness among students.
Other speakers in the event included Rajyogini BK Narmada, Centre in-charge of the Brahma Kumaris in Aizawl and Rajyogi Dr Banarsil Sah, secretary of the medical wing.
