NPCC opposes govt bid to appoint vigilance commissioner
DIMAPUR: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has strongly objected to the attempt of the NPF government to appoint a "tainted" person as state vigilance commissioner.
The NPCC claimed that the Nagaland government, led by the Nagaland People's Front (NPF), was likely to appoint former DGP K Kire, who has been implicated by the CAG for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 18 crore for procurement of arms and ammunition, and that an FIR has been pending against him in connection with the case.

The people of Nagaland are aware that even in the case of appointment of Central Vigilance Commissioner, the order was reverted on charges of corruption, it stated. "It is expected that a person holding the top post of vigilance should have an unblemished career history. Else, how will people repose faith in the office of vigilance commissioner?" it said.
Stating that the government should not set a bad precedence by appointing a tainted person to the top post, the NPCC urged the governor to safeguard the interests of the public and sanctity of the State Vigilance Commission.
