Dibrugarh: Two persons were injured in police firing in the Bogidol area Sivasagar district on Monday evening after they allegedly attempted to collect extortion money on behalf of banned outfit Ulfa-I.
The two injured persons, identified as Ritu Gogoi and Jitumoni Gogoi, and four others were travelling on three motorcycles to collect extortion money from local businessman Lachit Gogoi.
Sivasagar SSP Papori Chetia said, “We had been tracking this racket for some time and positioned a team on the road after receiving a tip.”
When police asked them to to stop, they allegedly opened fire on the officers. The team retaliated, in which, three bullets hit Ritu, while Jitumoni caught a single bullet. The others fled. Two police personnel were injured in scuffle.
