Two UP youths arrestedin Tripura for using false docus to secure govt jobs

Agartala: A local court in Tripura's Dhalai district on Sunday sent two youths from Uttar Pradesh to three days of judicial custody for allegedly attempting to get govt jobs by using forged documents under the state's resident quota.The youths were arrested a day before from Salema of Kamalpur, following information from locals, who revealed a long-standing recruitment scam involving candidates from outside Tripura. The suspects have been identified as Rupesh Kumar and Pradeep Kumar.Police said the duo had passed the Staff Selection Commission (SSC-GD) exams by falsely claiming to be residents of Morachhara in the Kamalpur sub-division. They were intercepted at Salema while on their way to Kamalpur to collect their job offer letters sent via post office. Upon being handed over to Kamalpur police, the duo confessed to the deception involving their addresses and other essential documentation. They said they posed as Tripura residents in order to circumvent competition, claiming it was easier to succeed in the exams this way compared to their home state of Uttar Pradesh. Sources reveal that for years, candidates from Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have been utilising counterfeit residential documents to secure jobs within Tripura's quota due to the lower qualifying marks compared to their own states. Allegations have surfaced about a network, including some members from the Assam Rifles and the BSF, facilitating these fraudulent practices. A retired Assam Rifles personnel, Umesh Chandra, is notably linked to these activities, having reportedly helped these individuals obtain fake Tripura residential identities for the SSC exams, police said.
