BELAGAVI: At least five people, including two children from Belagavi, were injured in a stampede that occurred at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.They had traveled to the Maha Kumbh mela to take a holy dip in the Ganga-Yamuna Sangam.Among the injured are Arun Koparde and his wife Kanchana, Sarojini Naduvinahalli of Vadagaon, and children Megha and Jyoti, all from Belagavi. According to sources, the injured are receiving treatment in different hospitals. Many were separated from their family members and close ones after the incident.Sarojini Naduvinahalli, one of the injured, stated that around 60 people from Belagavi traveled to Prayagraj in two buses and reached the Ganga-Yamuna Sangam at 1am to take a holy bath.“Suddenly, a stampede began, and people walked on us. Many among us were displaced and some of us were injured,” she said.Hundreds of people from Belagavi visited Prayagraj for Mauni Amavasya, an auspicious day to take a holy dip during the Maha Kumbh.Belagavi DC Mohammad Roshan said the district administration is closely monitoring the situation."The administration is constantly in contact with the concerned travel agency that carried people from Belagavi and required assistance would be given to the affected people," he said.
