Court orders demolition of house built on TB Board land

Hosapete (Vijayanagara): A JMFC court in Hosapete has ordered the demolition of a house constructed on Tungabhadra Board land, citing violation of regulations and court directives.In a press release, Tungabhadra Board secretary ORK Reddy said the reservoir, powerhouse and adjoining areas are classified as prohibited zones under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.He said 696.1 acres are under the Board's possession, including 207.4 acres in Hosapete jurisdiction and 488.7 acres in Amaravati jurisdiction. As many as 23 cases related to Board land are under trial in different courts. The land is jointly administered by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where permanent construction is prohibited.Despite this, a woman constructed a building on an 80-by-100-ft plot near the TB Dam hospital in Nishani Camp. In its March 28 order, the court termed the structure illegal and directed its demolition. The court also found that the woman violated an earlier status quo order. First additional civil judge and JMFC J Chaitra sentenced her to two months imprisonment for contempt of court.ORK Reddy said demolition will be carried out in phases, adding that similar encroachments will face action.
