Davangere police arrest five in honeytrap case

DAVANGERE: In a honeytrap case, Davangere Rural police arrested five suspects and seized items worth a total of Rs 18.8 lakh, including jewellery and the vehicle used in the crime. The arrested individuals are Panchami, Jagadish, Ganga Mallesh Naik, Venkatesh, and Suresh. “Panchami had become acquainted with Abhishek. Later, Abhishek stopped communicating with Panchami due to her inappropriate behaviour. In response, Panchami called Abhishek, asking him to meet her in a secluded area near Bathi village,” police reported.

“While the two were talking, the suspects arrived in a car and on a scooter, assaulted Abhishek, stole 80g of gold jewellery, and fled the scene. Abhishek filed a complaint with the Davangere Rural police station. During the investigation, it was discovered that Panchami and the other suspects had conspired to commit the crime. All suspects have been remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing. No prior cases have been registered against the suspects. Preliminary investigation suggests this is a honeytrap case,” stated SP HT Shekhar.
