The P-G department of studies in Economics at Karnatak University (Dharwad) will host a three-day annual conference of Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) from December 17.

DHARWAD: The P-G department of studies in Economics at Karnatak University (Dharwad) will host a three-day annual conference of Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) from December 17.
The 52nd edition of ISLE meet will discuss emerging issues related to labour problems arising out of globalization and privatization. As many as 350 delegates from across India and 25 delegates from abroad, including BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India and China) countries would attend the meet.
Union labour minister Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate the conference while Abhijit Sen, member of Planning Commission and president-elect of the conference, will deliver the keynote address.

UGC chairman Sukhdeo Thorat will also be present.
Organizing secretary and chairman of the department of Economics, Laxman Vaikunthe, said the conference will focus on three themes __ planning for full employment, labour migration (causes and consequences) and emerging pattern of employment relations. A separate session on `Labour problems in Karnataka' will be arranged, he added.
The valedictory scheculed for December 19 will have state labour minister B N Bacchegowda as the chief guest. Gerry Rodgers, former director of International Institute of Labour Studies (Geneva) will deliver the valedictory address. Sudha Pillai, member secretary of Planning Commission (New Delhi), will preside.
