North Karnataka celebrates yoga day with enthusiasm, zeal

Speaking at a programme at KLES P C Jabin Science College, KLES director Shankranna Munavalli said yoga was a symbol of Indian heritage and is now being followed across the world. Principal SV Hiremath, BCA head Jyoti Maned, yoga students Pratik, C G Shivaraj, Shweta Veena, Daneshwari, Soumya Shivanand demonstrated yoga.
Deshpande Foundation conducted a yoga programme with with 1,500 participants at Deshpande Educational Trust campus. Srinivas Deshpande, a retired labour commissioner encouraged students to practice yoga daily.
Foundation CEO Vivek Pawar said, "Yoga helped me recover from a lethal disease. I could recover after regular practice and inculcating good diet. I now advocate all of you to make yoga a regular practice."
In M R Sakhare CBSE school, yoga day was celebrated by principal, teachers and students with great enthusiasm. Kushal, an alumnus of 2013 batch spoke about how he joined the navy and encouraged his juniors to follow him. Students demonstrated various asana followed by omkar chanting. Principal Sharmila Hemant encouraged students to practice regular yoga to be fit.
‘Yoga helps improve concentration’
Yoga helps achieve concentration besides keeping the person healthy, said Col. J D Sahasrabuddhe, officer commanding, 24 Karnataka Battalion NCC. He spoke at a mass yoga programme organised at Karnatak College here on Friday. Practicing yoga will keep a person away from harmful vices and help lead a quality life, he added.
About 1,500 NCC cadets, officers and soldiers from various wings of the Indian Defence forces from Dharwad, Kittur and Haliyal took part in the programme. Deputy director of food and civil supplies Sadashiva Marji inaugurated the programme. Chandru Lamani guided the participants to perform various asanas.
