Jagadish Shettar

Jagadish Shivappa Shettar was the 21st Chief Minister of Karnataka and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He has served as the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister under Sadananda Gowda.

Shettar plunged into politics in his days of youth with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He has also been actively involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

In 2005, he was appointed as the BJP's state unit president. He went on to become the revenue minister in the JD(S)-BJP coalition government headed by HD Devegowda's son HD Kumaraswamy in 2006.

In 2011, following the resignation of Yeddyurappa, Shettar emerged as a major contender for the post of chief minister. In 2012, Shettar was chosen by the BJP central leadership to replace Gowda.

In 2023, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar joined the Congress ahead of the May 10 Assembly elections. Shettar resigned from BJP after he was denied a ticket to contest in this election.
