Row over 54 kg meat seized on Eid in Gangavathi

Gangavathi (Koppal): Around 54 kg of meat was seized during a raid on Eid, March 21, which triggered a controversy, as Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV) alleged that the meat was beef, and demanded action against those responsible.The raid was carried out by a team led by inspector Prakash Mali, who were on Eid bandobast duty. Acting on the information provided by the HJV activists, about alleged beef sale, the police raided a tin shed near Huma School in HRS colony on Saturday.During the inspection, meat, knives used for cutting meat, a weighing machine, and other equipment were found. Police called veterinary officer Dr Niranjan from Sangapur and municipal authorities to the site, and in their presence, seized 54kg meat, and registered a case.Police said 3kg of the seized meat was collected as samples for lab testing. Those allegedly involved in the sale are absconding. A case has been registered against the shed owner, Allahbakhshi, under the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 2020. ASI Shivasharan and police personnel Ramesh, Mahesh, Raghavendra, and others were part of the raid. PI Prakash Mali said that the confiscated meat samples will be sent for testing, and action will be initiated based on the outcome.Reacting to the incident, HJV Karnataka North region co-convener Srikant Hoskera alleged that despite multiple raids and cases at the same location, meat has been found there again. He further alleged that illegal beef sale is taking place at several places in the city, and demanded strict action against such establishments.
