Russia has reacted strongly to India’s arrest of six Ukrainian citizens and a US national by the NIA for alleged links to proscribed insurgent groups. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the individuals allegedly crossed from Mizoram into Myanmar, connected with local armed groups, supplied EU-made drones, and trained militants in drone assembly, repair, and electronic warfare. She criticised Ukraine for trying to conceal the incident and remaining silent on violations of India’s counter-terrorism laws, calling Kyiv a “core exporter of instability” involved in global arms black markets and regional conflicts. India’s MEA confirmed consular access requests have been received, with all seven detainees, including US citizen Matthew Van Dyke, remanded to 11-day NIA custody.
