Youth attacks doctor at BRIMS hospital
Bidar: A group of youth attacked a 28 year old resident doctor, on duty, at Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) Hospital, in Bidar during the wee hours on Friday. Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case. Aditya Gummala, 21, Balaji Gummala, 23, of Tajalapur village, Vinod Koli, 26, Pawan Koli, 25, of Chambol village, Govind Chouhan, 28, Mahadev Chouhan, 23, of Benakanalli, and Anil Kachave, 25, of Latur, Maharashtra, have been arrested.
A youth from Benakanalli village was injured after he fell from his bike and was brought to BRIMS Hospital for treatment late on Friday around 1am. It is said that the youth demanded treatment without a medico-legal case (MLC).
Speaking to TOI, the victim Dr Tukaram, a 1st year PG student at BRIMS, said that he was on duty at that time and gave primary treatment and sent him for scanning. “A group of young men who were under the influence of alcohol attacked me asking, Why did I do MLC? Other staff present at the hospital came to help me, but they pushed them and assaulted me,” he added.
The injured doctor is being treated in SICU ward of BRIMS Hospital. A case has been registered at the New Town police station.
Doctors and medical students staged a protest in front of BRIMS Hospital on Friday condemning the attack on doctor. Strict legal action should be taken against the accused. More security personnel should be deployed in the hospital, they demanded.
