HYDERABAD: Five people have been arrested for the murder of an auto driver who was stabbed to death and his body burnt on Musi banks about 10 days ago. The main accused is on the run. The man was allegedly killed after an argument with others over sharing stolen property, police said.
The victim, Md Imran (23), had a criminal record and was an accused in a murder case and two property offences.
Four of the six accused also have a criminal record, Saroornagar inspector K Srinivas said.
Imran had gone missing after leaving his house in Bhagat Singh Nagar in Saroornagar on August 5 morning. "While leaving the house, Imran told his mother Mumtaz that he was going to meet his friend Sathi. When she called him in the night, he said he would return home after getting his scooter repaired," a Rachakonda cop said.
As Imran did not turn up even on August 6 and his phone was switched off, Mumtaz along with other family members searched for him till August 7 and then lodged a complaint with the police. A missing case was registered at Saroornagar police station on August 7.
Police analysed call details of Imran and also made enquiries about his friends. On Monday, Satish alias Sathi, S Sekhar, B Arun Kumar, R Shyam Sundar and K Rahul were arrested for the murder. Their associate and main accused Sonu Singh alias Laxman Singh is on the run.
The accused allegedly confessed that on August 6 morning they met on the Musi river bank at Chaitanyapuri and a heated argument broke out over sharing of some stolen property.
"During the argument, Laxman Singh and others stabbed Imran in the neck multiple times with a knife. Subsequently, they set the body ablaze using petrol and fire wood collected from nearby," the inspector said.
Police collected skeletal remains from the spot, blood soaked soil and CCTV camera footage of nearby area. The samples were sent to the lab for DNA match with his family.
The case has been transferred to Chaitanyapuri police station.
