HYDERABAD: Struggling to come to grips with the fact that their playful toddler is no more, the shocked and inconsolable family of two-year-old
Chaitra on Monday slammed the authorities for the newly installed yet dysfunctional CCTV cameras near the accident spot and demanded stringent punishment for the culprit.
“New CCTV cameras were installed on a flag post three months ago, but connectivity has not yet been established, making them useless.
If the cameras were functional, the offenders would have been nabbed by now,“ said an angry Gajula Srinivas Rao, Chait ra's uncle.
“Strict action should be taken against the person who killed my child. The police should nab the culprit and provide justice,“ said Chaitra's grieving mother A Shravanti. Denying that her child was playing in the middle of the road, Shravanti said: “My daughter was playing near our shop at the corner of the road. A sweeper and my elder daughter alerted me about the incident. I was shocked to see her lying in a pool of blood.“
While Chaitra's father runs a grocery store close to house, her mother is a homemaker.
A sobbing Shravanti, who suspects that the car may have hit her daughter's head, said, “ The driver rammed the car into my child .I saw blood oozing out of her eyes and ears. I can't get that image out of my mind.“
According to the victim's five-year-old sister Rakshita, the car stopped for a minute after hitting her sister before driving off again. “I was inside the house and went out to look for my sister. I was unable to spot her and could only see a car. When it moved, I saw my sister lying in a pool of blood,“
Rakshita said.
The victim's relatives and locals are now demanding that the government extend financial aid to Chaitra's family. “The authorities should provide financial aid as Chaitra hails from a poor family,“ said Gajula Srinivas Rao.
