Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday criticised the central govt for not purchasing the harvested crops and appealed to the Left parties to fight against the Centre on procurement.
“The Union govt is not procuring even 30 percent of the harvested crops. It was only the state govt which was purchasing every single grain cultivated by the farmers. Except for announcing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to the crops, the Centre is doing nothing significant in procurement of paddy, maize and other crops,” Revanth said in two separate meetings with the
CPI and
CPM state unit leaders at the Secretariat on Monday.

In the meeting with the CPM delegation which was led by its state secretary John Wesley, the CM discussed the issues of procurement of foodgrains, progress on the Musi Rejuvenation Project front and reforms in the education system to provide quality education to the poorer sections.
Revanth told the CPM leaders about the shortage of Hamalis (loaders) due to the elections in West Bengal. The prevailing heat wave conditions halted the procurement process in the afternoon at the centres, he informed.
Stating that he was continuously reviewing the procurement operations, he said the state govt was already providing ₹500 bonus to fine variety paddy per quintal and also MSP to maize to provide relief to the farmers.
Revanth briefed the CPM leaders about the relief being provided to the displaced alongside Musi river under Musi Rejuvenation Project. “The govt is sanctioning houses for those displaced. The Musi project will transform the riverfront into a world class tourist destination and also create huge employment to the local youth,” he told the Left party leaders.
The CM took strong exception to politicising the Musi project by the opposition BRS and BJP parties. The Left party leaders were also apprised of how the people of Nalgonda district were being affected due to increasing pollution of Musi river water. “My objective is to provide a quality life to the citizens of the city,” the CM affirmed.
Revanth said the entire education sector is being overhauled aiming to deliver quality education to the poor. Nutritious food in breakfast and midday meals, establishment of Telangana public schools were part of the strengthening of education sector, he added.
In his meeting with the CPI delegation led by Kothagudem MLA and state unit secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, CM Revanth said the state govt is purchasing maize despite financial burden, and criticised the Union govt for not procuring the crop.
Both the CPM and CPI delegations thanked the CM for the hike of minimum wages of the workers through minimum wages amendment Act.
