Dalit youth ends life after beaten up by his upper caste girl friend’s family

HYDERABAD: Kaki Sunil, 22, a youth belonging to Dalit community died by suicide at Kukatpally on Tuesday after the family members of a girl with whom he was in a relationship, assaulted him and his family members. The girl’s family was against the relationship as he was a Dalit and they belonged to an upper caste, said police.
Police said that Sunil’s family migrated from AP and were residing at Shamshiguda under Kukatpally police limits.

He was studying B Com final year in a private college and fell in love with a girl, who is also studying graduation and a resident of the same locality.
But as they belonged to different castes, the girl’s family opposed their relationship. In this connection, they warned Sunil to stay away from the girl and there were fights between both families in the past. However, they continued their relationship and they were regularly in touch over the phone.
Meanwhile, on Monday night, Sunil and his friends went to a wine shop at Nizampet to consume alcohol. The girl’s brother and cousin who came to the same wine shop around the same time, saw Sunil and became furious.
They first attacked him with beer bottles. Later, they along with the girl’s mother went to Sunil’s residence and attacked him and his family members. Upset with this, Sunil died by suicide at his residence on Tuesday.
A case for abetment to suicide and under Prevention of atrocities against SCs& STs was registered against the girl’s mother, brother and cousin and further investigation is underway, said M Muthu, SHO Kukatpally. A hunt is on to nab them.
