HYDERABAD: The Narayanguda police on Wednesday apprehended five college students belonging to affluent families for indulging in snatching gold chains and cellphones.
The students -- D Deepak Reddy, 19 (B Com II year student), K Ethiraj, 20, (B Tech), R Dhanpal Reddy, 21 (degree final year), B Lokesh, 19 (degree II year) and G Satish Kumar, 21, who had discontinued studies.

"The students confessed that they had resorted to snatching valuables to maintain a lavish lifestyle. They are regulars at known bars and pubs in the city," deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Central Zone, Akun Sabharwal said.
They confessed to have been involved in nine cases of snatching and a robbery in the limits of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates. The students would zero in on a lone target and follow him. When the target reached a deserted area, the motorcycle-borne youth would snatch the valuables, he added.
Sixteen tolas of gold and 22 cellphones were recovered from them.
