HYDERABAD: An interfaith couple here got married for the second time at a police station after initially facing resistance from the bride’s mother, police said. The couple — Imran (26) and Bhavya Sri (24) — have been in love for the past four years and had earlier married according to Christian traditions four months ago, according to news agency PTI. The bride’s family had converted to Christianity after her father passed away a few years ago. With the bride’s mother opposing the alliance, the couple approached the police. The mother had asked the bridegroom to marry her daughter according to Hindu traditions, to which he agreed, police said. Four days ago, the couple visited police officials, and the groom tied a ‘mangalsutra’ to the bride in the presence of some relatives while leaving the station. Policemen were not present at the time, they added. The groom’s family, which includes his mother and a widowed sister, did not oppose the marriage. The groom works in a bank, and the bride is employed in the software industry; both have good salaries. Police said the bride’s mother has since reconciled to the wedding. Though members of a right-wing outfit initially opposed the marriage, they did not turn up later.
