HYDERABAD: A tiff over frequent phone conversations ended in a murder at Shivashankar Colony in Fatehnagar. A 39-year-old man allegedly clubbed his wife to death with a dumbbell after suspecting her of speaking to unknown persons over the phone.
The accused, Chandra Banu Samal and his wife, Sasmita Samal, 34, natives of Odisha’s Jajpur district, were living in Hyderabad for the past year along with their two children, a 12-year-old son and a nine-yearold daughter.
According to police, Chandra Banu, a daily wage worker, was frequently quarrelling with his wife over suspicions regarding her phone conversations. Investigators said the couple had a heated argument on Tuesday night after he allegedly accused her of talking to strangers on the phone.
During the altercation, Chandra Banu allegedly lost his temper and attacked Sasmita with a dumbbell around 8 pm on Tuesday.
The blow caused severe head injuries and heavy bleeding, leaving her unconscious on the spot. Family members and neighbours rushed her to a nearby hospital. However, despite medical efforts, Sasmita succumbed to her injuries.
Police said the accused was taken into custody soon after the woman’s death.
