Mulugu police K9 dog Scamper, key to LWE operations, dies after illness

Scamper, a six-year-old Labrador retriever serving in the Mulugu district police K9 unit, passed away on Monday. He had been receiving treatment for several health problems. Trained at the IITA in Hyderabad, Scamper played a vital role in anti-LWE operations, combing efforts, and the Medaram Jatara festival since 2018.

HYDERABAD: A six-year-old dog named Scamper, deputed to the K9 wing of the Mulugu district police, breathed his last on Monday.
Scamper, belonging to the Labrador family, was undergoing treatment for multiple health issues for the past three weeks. An expert sniffer dog, Scamper was instrumental in the operations taken up by the police in the LWE-affected areas and during the combing operations. He also played a key role in the biennial Sammakka Saralakka Jatara held at Medaram in the district.
Trained at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA) in Moinabad, Hyderabad, Scamper was deputed to Mulugu district in 2018 and was an active member of the district K9 squad. Sabarish, Superintendent of Police, Mulugu, along with senior police officials and the Dog Squad members, condoled Scamper’s death and paid tributes, after which he was laid to rest with police honours at the District Police training centre on Monday.
