TIRUPATI: A naxalite couple surrendered before Chittoor district SP Naveen Chand on Wednesday. The couple, K Raja Sekhar Raju alias Sanjeev (39), a district committee member commander, and his wife Gopalakrishnamma (25), carried a reward over their heads, of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. The police said Raju, a post-graduate degree holder, worked as a part-time lecturer in Tirupati before he joined the movement in 1988.
Earlier, he worked for the Kalinga dalam and was later shifted to Yerrakonda dalam and subsequently to the Thalakona dalam.
He married Gopalakrishnamma alias Suguna alias Shobha in 1995, following the party high command''s decision. Later, the couple were sent to Vadapalli in Chennai to spread the movement and translate Marxist and military literature. Raju is said to be involved in the blasting of the Pileru railway station in April 1996. District SP Naveenchand said the surrended naxalites would be given Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and would be rehabilitated as per the government norms.
