Hyderabad: SC, ST, minority and disabled welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar on Saturday said chief minister A Revanth Reddy has released 60 crore towards emergency funds to address the problems in gurukul hostels.
Addressing a media conference, he announced that a ‘speed response and tracking system' is being launched to ensure quick redressal of student grievances, including complaints on food quality, sanitation, and healthcare.
"The previous BRS govt which left the education sector particularly the gurukul educational institutions in complete disarray is now trying to accuse the Congress govt on issues concerning students. The BRS leaders should remember that they had remained silent when IIIT Basara students staged an all-night protest over the quality of food during the BRS govt term. Not a single minister from the then BRS govt had visited (them)," he alleged. Laxman Kumar highlighted that the student enrolment has risen from 67,113 during the BRS tenure to 71,044 now, reflecting 3,931 new admissions, while over 3.27 lakh students were currently pursuing education in various gurukuls in the state.
Referring to the impressive performance of Gurukul students in national and state-level competitive exams, Laxman Kumar said 26 students qualified in the 2025 Civil Services Prelims while five cleared the Indian Foreign Services Prelims. Similarly, 33 students cracked Group-I, 145 cleared Group-IV, and 123 were selected for DSC.
The minister also sought to assure that the pending bills would be cleared in two phases, the first tranche by Oct 20 and the remaining by month-end. "Student welfare is our priority, not a matter of politics. When students eat well, live well and study well, their future and their families' future is secure," he added.
