HYDERABAD: Rachakonda police arrested nine students for selling marijuana near an engineering college at Ibrahimpatnam on Thursday. Police seized 1.1 kilo marijuana from their possession.
Acting on specific alert, Ibrahimpatnam police raided at a rented house located near Gurunanak Engineering College in Ibrahimpatnam on Thursday morning and arrested nine students aged between 18 and 21 years.
Police seized 35 packets of high quality marijuana in the possession of the students. “The total weight of the seized marijuana is 1.1 kilos and its market value is about Rs 18,000,” Ibrahimpatnam ACP S Malla Reddy said.
According to police, among the nine arrested students, eight are B Tech first and second year students of Gurunanak Engineering College and the other student, Mani Kumar, 21, is from Karimnagar.
According to police, among the eight accused students of Gurunanak College, four are from Telangana, two are from Assam and the remaining are from Meghalaya and Afghanistan.
During the interrogation, the students said that Mani Kumar procures marijuana from a contact person in Araku of Visakhapatnam for less price and sells the product here for Rs 500 a packet.
Most of the customers are students of various engineering colleges in Ibrahimpatnam and to sell the marijuana, the accused took a room on rent. “We have called the parents of the college students and counselled them to keep a watch on the behaviour of their children. The accused were booked under the NDPS Act and remanded in judicial custody,” the ACP said.
