HYDERABAD: Parents and relatives of V Hemalatha, who "hanged herself to death"on Wednesday, staged a dharna in front of Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police station on Thursday demanding the arrest of Hemalatha's husband and in-laws for allegedly killing her. V Hemalatha, 23, a native of Bhongir in Nalgonda district, married Shiva Ramakrishna, a native of Rajahmundry and employee of National Biotech, in February 2005 and the duo had been residing in Maduranagar under S R Nagar police station limits along with Ramakrishna's close relatives.
Hemalatha was working in a private company as a computer data operator. On Wednesday, Ramakrishna and his parents informed everybody that Hemalatha had committed suicide by hanging herself. Parents of Hemalatha including father Pavan Kumar and grandfather Ramakrishna who rushed to Hyderabad alleged that Hemalatha was killed by her husband, in-laws and a friend of Ramakrishna, Kalyan.
When the police tried to convince them that it was a case of suicide, the angry parents staged a dharna in front of the police station and blocked the traffic for a while. The police, however, booked a case of suspected dowry harassment under Section 304 and sent the body for post-mortem. Following the protest launched by Hemalatha's parents, the police also took an RMO and doctors to the spot. A report is expected in a day or two, the police said.
Father of Hemalatha informed TOI that his daughter used to be harassed by her husband and his parents. Hemalatha had also mentioned that her husband used to seek the help of his friend Kalyan to harass her. Pavan alleged that Kalyan had even sexually abused Hemalatha. Detective inspector of S R Nagar T R Padmanabham told TOI that an inquiry has been ordered by assistant commissioner of police and further action would be taken after receiving the medical reports.
