RCB win celebrations turn chaotic in Hyderabad: Videos show fans burning crackers, climbing vehicles
By: Manvi Vyas
HYDERABAD: As elated supporters of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) poured into the streets on Sunday night to celebrate the team’s victory in the IPL, a series of videos circulated online showing fans creating a ruckus on the road, making the police resort to lathi-charge. However, no legal action has been initiated against anyone.
Some clips showed fans burning firecrackers and damaging public property, others were seen moving barricades, specifically near the Secretariat. Some were seen climbing onto vehicles and celebrating recklessly.
The ruckus, adding to the crowd, led to a massive traffic jam, forcing the police to resort to a lathi charge.
“We had to deploy a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. We have, however, not taken anyone into preventive custody or booked any cases so far,” Saifabad Inspector A Seethaiah told TOI.
The celebrations, which caused inconvenience to regular commuters and disrupted traffic movement, drew widespread criticism from social media, with netizens questioning whether celebrations have gone beyond lawful sportsmanship spirit.
Similar scale of celebrations was witnessed in Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru.
