KOLKATA: Police divers and river traffic officials frantically searched for a man seen jumping into the Hooghly around midnight on Tuesday only to realise that the ‘victim’ was standing on the other shore, watching the rescue operation all along. Mintu Sarkar, 35, a Lake resident had left home in a huff after a brawl with his wife. Around 12.30am, a police officer saw a man jumping from Howrah bridge and alerted the disaster management team.
After searching for about an hour, a cop saw Sarkar standing on the opposite riverbank, watching the operation with great interest. Police later said Sarkar was drunk and clueless that they were searching for him. He is back with his family.
