HYDERABAD: Leaky roofs, short circuit problems and pitiable condition of walls welcome the patients of the Ranga Reddy district Tuberculosis Centre at Dabeerpura.
The sixty-eight-year-old building requires immediate attention of the authorities with the condition of the building getting worse with each passing day. The building has a leaky roof, patches falling off the walls and frequent incidents of short circuits.
The electric wiring has several joints and is often unable to take the load.
Though the health centre has a drinking water connection, the supply of water has been a mirage. The Dabeerpura health centre is the headquarter for six TB centres in the district with a staff strength of 21. The government after inspecting the building in 1999 had directed the shifting of the centre to another building in Saroornagar. But still the TB centre remains in the same old complex.
The centre has no proper sitting and rest rooms for patients who come from far off places. The centre also lacks latest equipment used in other hospitals for detection of TB.
“Over 100 patients are treated at the health centre daily and there is no drinking water provision right from the establishment of centre and the staff bring drinking water in a jeep collected from the public tap in Chanchalguda, a hospital official said.
“Moreover the building has no security guard and three robbery incidents have been reported so far, he added.
“We have given several representations for providing drinking water to the centre in the last five years but the authorities never bothered to respond, another official said. Often there are short circuits and power fluctuations in the building, this matter has been taken to the notice of authorities concerned and they too have failed, he added.
