Hyderabad rain fury: Student, auto driver electrocuted after live wire falls into waterlogged street; flooding chokes traffic across city
HYDERABAD: Two persons were electrocuted in Bandlaguda on Tuesday evening after an overhead electric wire snapped during heavy rain and fell into stagnant water.
The victims, a teenager and an auto driver, died instantly after stepping into the puddle near a hotel.
The deceased were identified as Jaffar, 15, a class IX student, and Afroz, 30, an auto driver from Jahangirabad in the Old City.
According to police, the two had gone to the hotel in Bandlaguda around 6 pm to have tea.
“Afroz parked the auto near the hotel and as soon as they stepped into the puddle of water, both suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed at the spot. Due to heavy rain and wind, an overhead electric line snapped and fell in the water, and unfortunately, the victims were close to the wire,” said Bandlaguda inspector R Devender.
Locals alerted the police, who coordinated with TGSPDCL authorities to cut off power in the area. “Electricity department personnel are fixing the problem.
Once the family members of the victims lodge a complaint, we will register a case under appropriate sections of law,” the inspector added.
