Telangana assures HC on final notification for FTLs of 3,342 lakes

Hyderabad: The state govt assured the Telangana high court that it would issue a final notification determining the full tank levels of all 3,342 lakes under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) within two months.
Special govt pleader Pottigari Sridhar Reddy conveyed this assurance to a bench consisting of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Sreenivas Rao, while seeking additional time.The bench was hearing a PIL, which it had taken up suo motu and has been monitoring the lake protection initiative.
The state counsel informed the court that there are 3,342 lakes within HMDA limits. Of these, preliminary notifications have been issued for 2,793 lakes. Final notifications have been issued for 765 lakes so far.
Sridhar Reddy further informed that substantial progress has been made regarding the issuance of final notifications, and updates on the remaining lakes will be conveyed to the court. The bench recorded the state govt's assurance and adjourned the case to Feb 4.
